Update to the Location of the 2025 Apollo Projects Junior Festival - Makos
Following the announcement of our competition calendar for 2025 in recent weeks, we learnt that accommodation was impossible to source in Invercargill during the allocated dates for the 2025 Apollo Projects Junior Festival - Makos.
To support clubs and swimmers from across the South Island to race at this festival, we have decided to relocate the festival to Moana Pool, Dunedin, for the same weekend.
Swimming NZ's Head of Participation, Competitions & Engagement, Dale Johnson, apologises for the change.
"When finalising the calendar, we hadn't realised that the 2025 NZ Pipe Band Championships would be so popular with an expected 8,000 attending. However, after announcing the dates for the Makos festival we learnt there was no accommodation left over the weekend so have made this decision to provide the best opportunity for the South Island to participate."
Johnson expressed his thanks to the regions for their support.
"I'd like to say thank you to each of the regions in the South Island for their support in re-arranging plans to best accommodate our 12 & under swimmers, particularly Otago and Southland, as we worked through setting the new plan. Whilst it hasn't worked out for 2025, we hope to see the festival in Invercargill in the near future."
Please note that the criteria for each of these competitions (eg: information book, schedule and qualifying times) will be released in late September 2024.
