Announcement of the NZ Secondary Schools at Waterworld
We are excited to announce the home for the NZ Secondary School Swimming Championships as Waterworld Te Rapa in Hamilton for the next 3 years (2025 - 2027). With the recent installation of a new digital screen at the facility, it's a great location to host the championships over the next 3 years.
Following the announcement of the Competition Review findings in May, the calendar has been finalised to align with the timing of competitions as outlined recommendation 2. In this case, the NZ Secondary School Swimming Championships will be held in early Term 3 of the school year, which usually sits in late July.
Hamilton City Council's Aquatic Director Community Services, Liz Cann, is thrilled to have secured these championships at their facility.
"We look forward to welcoming secondary school swimmers from across the country to Waterworld at next year’s championship meet. It will be exciting to see the racing take place locally over four days and we can’t wait to see all the winning times displayed on our new digital scoreboard."
Swimming NZ’s Head of Participation, Competitions & Engagement, Dale Johnson, believes it's a great location for the championships.
"We have found Waterworld to create an excellent atmosphere for the NZ Secondary School Swimming Championships in previous years. It's a central location for the North Island and accessible for those flying from down south, which has traditionally seen strong attendance from schools across the country."
Johnson noted the championships have been a favourite on the calendar for many swimmers.
"It's always a great competition, with lots of relays and pride in representing the school. It's a celebration of swimming as we know how much students love to represent their school in New Zealand."
Please stay tuned for further calendar announcements for 2025 over the coming days. The criteria for each of these championships (eg: information book, schedule and qualifying times) will be released in late September 2024.
