Calendar Update – National Aquatic Centre Set to Host National Champs

Announcement of the National Championships at AUT Millennium in 2025

We are excited to announce the first set of dates and venues for our 2025 pool calendar. Next year, the two pinnacle open age championships will be held at the Sir Owen G Glenn National Aquatic Centre in Auckland.

Following the announcement of the Competition Review findings in May, the calendar has been finalised to align with the timing of competitions as outlined recommendation 2. In this case, the 2025 Apollo Projects NZ Swimming Championships will be held from Wednesday 21 - Sunday 25 May to fall in the mid-May to mid-June window. Likewise, the 2025 NZ Short Course Swimming Championships will be held from Sunday 21 - Thursday 25 September to sit in the first week of Term 3 School Holidays.

Swimming NZ’s Head of Participation, Competitions & Engagement, Dale Johnson, is looking forward to these championships returning to Auckland in 2025.

"It's great to be continuing to host some of our pinnacle national championships at the National Aquatic Centre. The facility is renowned for being a fast pool and has always been a great location."

Johnson noted the championships have been must watch over the past few years.

"Recently, there have been some outstanding performances at these championships, so we are looking forward to bringing the community together in Auckland for both the long and short course champs in 2025. We encourage the community to mark these dates in the calendar so you don't miss out on the action."

AUT Millennium's Chief Executive, Mike Stanley CNZM, is thrilled to have secured more national championships at their facility.

"AUT Millennium is very pleased to be confirmed as the host of two of Swimming NZ’s top tier competitions at the Sir Owen Glenn National Aquatic Centre in 2025. We are excited with the opportunity to see our nation’s top swimmers in action at the Apollo Projects NZ Swimming Championships in May and the NZ Short Course Championships in September."

Stanley also noted that it will be 10 years since first hosting national championships.

"The Sir Owen G Glenn National Aquatic Centre is New Zealand’s premier swimming facility and in 2025 it will be celebrating 10 years supporting swimming and aquatics sport at all levels."

Johnson also took the opportunity to thank those involved in confirming these dates.

“As always, thank you to the team at AUT Millennium for their ongoing support of our swimming competitions. I'd also like to thank the Events Advisory Committee and Competition Review Working Group for their help in setting up the calendar for 2025.”

Please stay tuned for further calendar announcements for 2025 over the coming days. The criteria for each of these championships (eg: information book, schedule and qualifying times) will be released in late September 2024.
