Dive Start Clinic Set For South Island

Announcement of the Dive Start Clinic in Dunedin on 23 March 2024

Following the successful introduction of Dive Start Clinics in 2023, we can't wait to host our first Dive Start Clinic in the South Island. Being held on Saturday 23 March at Moana Pool, Dunedin, from 11.30am, we are fortunate to have four Aquablacks getting involved to help share their skills and experiences at this engaging clinic.

With the clinic been held alongside Swimming NZ events in their first year, we are thrilled to be working alongside Swimming Otago to deliver the first Dive Start Clinic in the South Island in the break in sessions at the Otago Junior Long Course Championships.

The clinics are designed as an opportunity for younger swimmers to learn skills in and out of the pool from their Aquablack heroes for just longer than an hour, before then getting the opportunity to meet their heroes through a Question & Answer session and concluding with the chance to get a photo and autograph.

This clinic will be focused on Freestyle skills, with a host of internationally experienced Aquablacks to share their knowledge. The four Aquablacks involved are:

  • Erika Fairweather (Aquablack 266) - 2021 Tokyo Olympian & 2023 World Aquatics Champs Bronze Medallist

  • Caitlin Deans (Aquablack 276) - 2022-24 World Aquatics Champs Representative

  • Zac Reid (Aquablack 269) - 2021 Tokyo Olympian & 2023 World Aquatics Champs Representative

  • Luan Grobbelaar (Aquablack 285) - 2023 World Aquatics Champs Representative

Swimming NZ's Head of Participation & Events is looking forward to seeing these clinics delivered in the South Island.

"We were really pleased with the success of the Dive Start Clinics in 2023 alongside our national events and can't wait to offer these in the South Island. A big thanks to Swimming Otago and our four Aquablacks for helping to bring this to life."

Spots are limited in each location to 40 participants, so please don’t wait to register as it is first in best dressed. Tickets are now on sale for $50 each.

We are looking forward to providing this opportunity for the community in the South Island. Thanks to our Aquablacks for getting involved and creating this opportunity.

Keep an eye out for more announcements of Dive Start Clinics across the year.
