Announcement of the 2025 NZ Masters Swimming Championships
We are excited to be partnering with NZ Masters Swimming for the third year in a row to deliver the 2025 NZ Masters Swimming Championships to provide an opportunity for adults to be active in the water.
For the first time, the competition will be held alongside the final three days of the 2025 Apollo Projects NZ Swimming Championships with Masters races being held in the middle of the day between heats and finals. In this case, the competition dates for the 2025 NZ Masters Swimming Championships are Friday 23 – Sunday 25 May at the Sir Owen G Glenn National Aquatic Centre in Auckland.
Swimming NZ's Competitions Manager, Kate Griffiths, believes this provides many benefits for all involved.
"The alignment of the two national championships is a win for our Masters competitors as they get to race in the same pool as our top swimmers, before watching them perform in their finals later each day. It also provides our coaches the chance to race in the pool whilst they are here and allows us maximise our use of the National Aquatic Centre across the week."
The championships are available to anyone aged 18 and older, without the requirement to be a member of either Swimming NZ or NZ Masters Swimming. We encourage anyone who enjoys having a swim with their friends to be involved and give it a go. Whether it be the first time you’ve donned the togs for a splash and dash 50m race in years, or you’ve challenged yourself to get back in the pool, there is a race for everyone.
There are also loads of relay opportunities to swim where everyone can be involved. Whether you enter a club team from your NZ Masters club, or you want to pull together your mates, we encourage everyone to enjoy the fun atmosphere that social racing provides at the NZ Masters Swimming Championships.
NZ Masters Swimming's Secretary, Megan Wilson, is grateful to be partnering again for the third consecutive year.
"As many of you will know and appreciate, the logistics and cost of running an event like this are significant and it would be very difficult for NZ Masters Swimming to do this, so we appreciate how Swimming NZ are delivering these championships. The format is slightly different this year and we hope you enjoy it. Thanks for your participation and support."
Swimming NZ’s Head of Participation, Competition & Engagement, Dale Johnson, believes this is the perfect opportunity for Kiwis to Unlock Their Greatness over the summer.
“There are so many health and wellbeing benefits that come from staying active in the water, and sometimes it helps to have a goal to work towards. We encourage everyone to add the champs to their calendar and enjoy swimming through the summer leading up to May.”
The competition information is now available on the competition webpage. Entries will open in early 2025. We encourage everyone to add the competition to their calendar.
