Swimmers Can’t Wait For The 2023 Orangetheory Epic Swim

Entries keep on coming for 2023 Orangetheory Epic Swim as swimmers can’t wait to be involved in this awesome event in stunning Lake Taupo on 14 – 15 January 2023. We’ve already heard from some of those who’ve entered, with everyone having a different reason as to why they are looking forward to it.

Bruce Smit loves using swimming events to help him stay fit after a lifetime in the water. “I started swimming at age 6, and was a seaside lifesaver from 1960 – 1970. I swam the False Bay Marathon (Cape Town) in 1965. I have since done several 1 mile plus swims in both the sea and freshwater. I have completed the Hamilton 5 Bridges swim every year since 2017. These swims are goals that keep me fit”

Rebecca Hollingsworth finds that Lake Taupo just keeps drawing her back. “I’ve spent my fair share of hours in the lake – it keeps luring me back.”

Marcel Loubser is using this event as a stepping stone to a bigger challenge in 2023. “Doing the swim as part of training for my Taupo crossing later in the season.”

A few participants have entered looking for the next challenge. “I’m an ex-swimmer trying to find my mojo. I am looking to a new challenge of long distance open water swimming.”

Hamish Gallen is keen to give open water swimming a go. “I love swimming and want to experience an open water swim.” Whereas John Hancock is a “rusty Ironman who prefers swimming over the other stuff.”

Some of have stated the event is a great opportunity for them to return their sacred ancestral Awa and Whenua.

So, no matter what you’re motivation, it’s bound to be an epic weekend of swimming. There are distances for everyone on offer, from the 100m and 500m swims, to the highly popular 1km and 2.5km swims, through to the 5km and 10km swims for those experienced swimmers looking for a distance challenge.

It’s a great weekend for friends and family to join forces with 2023 being the first year to host two relay opportunities. The 4 x 500m event is on the Saturday and the 4 x 1km event is on the Sunday, so there are so many great ways to be involved this Kiwi summer in the southern hemisphere’s largest lake!

The event is held in conjunction with the 2023 Orangetheory NZ Open Water Swimming Championships with some of New Zealand’s top swimmers taking part. So make sure you don’t miss out on any of the action and join us in Taupo for a great weekend of being active in the lake!

*Entries can be made on the day, but enter now to avoid missing out! See you in Taupo
