West Receives Prestigious World Aquatics Honour

John West Receives the 2022 Dennis Miller Award

Whilst the World Aquatics Championships have gotten underway in Fukuoka over the weekend, Swimming NZ Life Member John West has been presented with the 2022 Dennis Miller Award.

This award is given by World Aquatics to one person annually in recognition of his outstanding contribution to open water swimming.

West is currently the Honourary Secretary of the World Aquatics Open Water Swimming Technical Committee, and has played an integral part in the organising and delivery of major international open water swimming competitions across the world over the past few years, including the current World Aquatics Championships in Japan.

West was presented the award by Oceania Aquatics President, Matthew Dunn, on site at the open water venue in Japan.

Upon receiving the award, West was humbled to receive this recognition.

"Very honoured and humbled to receive this award. I've been thinking a lot of Dennis who was a friend, colleague, guide and mentor over many years."

The award was established to honour Dennis Miller (Fiji) for his contribution to developing FINA, particularly in open water swimming.

Our entire swimming community would like to congratulate John West for receiving this award and for the service you've given to our sport at the World Aquatics level.
